Terms Used In Indiana Code 22-5-1-4
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the commonwealths, possessions, states in free association with the United States, and the territories. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
Sec. 4. Nothing in this chapter shall be so construed as to prevent any citizen or subject of any foreign country temporarily residing in the United States either in a private or official capacity from engaging, under contract or otherwise, persons not residents or citizens of the United States to act as private secretaries, servants, or domestics for such foreigner temporarily residing in the United States, nor shall this chapter be so construed as to prevent any person or persons, partnership, limited liability company, or corporation from engaging, under contract or agreement, skilled workmen in foreign countries to perform labor in the state of Indiana in or upon any new industry not at present established in the state, provided that skilled labor for that purpose cannot otherwise be obtained; nor shall the provisions of this chapter apply to professional actors, artists, lecturers, or singers, nor to persons employed strictly as personal or domestic servants; however, nothing in this chapter shall be construed as prohibiting any individual from assisting any member of his family or relative or personal friend to migrate from any foreign country to the state for the purpose of settlement here.
