Sec. 4. A small claims referee may:
(2) take and certify affidavits and depositions;
(1) administer all oaths and affirmations;

- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
(3) issue subpoenas for witnesses;
(4) compel the attendance of witnesses; and
(5) punish contempts;
for matters within the small claims jurisdiction of the court.
