- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any person, legally liable or against whom a claim is asserted for damages for injuries sustained, shall, upon written request, be furnished by any hospital or nursing home asserting a lien under this article with an itemized statement of the charges and services rendered therefor to date and shall be permitted to examine the records of the hospital or nursing home in reference to the treatment, care and maintenance of the injured person therein. Failure of the hospital or nursing home to provide such statement or permit such examination shall constitute a valid defense in an action brought to enforce a lien under this article.
