Any nonprofit hospital service corporation organized pursuant to the provisions of chapter 19 of this title, that first obtains authorization to do so by the Rhode Island Optometric Association as evidenced by the affidavit of the president and secretary of the association, may amend its articles of association to adopt the provisions of this chapter, and upon that adoption the corporation shall have and exercise all of the powers and be subject to all of the duties and responsibilities of a nonprofit optometric service corporation to the same extent as though it had been incorporated as a nonprofit optometric service corporation.

- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Nonprofit optometric service corporation: means any corporation organized pursuant to this chapter for the purpose of establishing, maintaining, and operating a nonprofit optometric service plan. See Rhode Island General Laws 27-20.2-1
- Optometric service: means the professional services rendered by persons duly licensed under the laws of this state to practice optometry or the expense indemnity for the services, appliances, supplies, and care as may be specified in any nonprofit optometric service plan.
