(1) Except as provided in Subsection (2), each applicant for licensure as an architect shall:

Terms Used In Utah Code 58-3a-302

  • Architect: means a person licensed under this chapter as an architect. See Utah Code 58-3a-102
  • Board: means the Architects Licensing Board created in Section 58-3a-201. See Utah Code 58-3a-102
  • Department: means the Department of Commerce. See Utah Code 58-1-102
  • Division: means the Division of Professional Licensing created in Section 58-1-103. See Utah Code 58-1-102
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Principal: means a licensed architect having responsible charge of an organization's architectural practice. See Utah Code 58-3a-102
     (1)(a) submit an application in a form prescribed by the division;
     (1)(b) pay a fee determined by the department under Section 63J-1-504;
     (1)(c) have graduated and received an earned bachelors or masters degree from an architecture program meeting criteria established by rule by the division in collaboration with the board;
     (1)(d) have successfully completed a program of diversified practical experience established by rule by the division in collaboration with the board;
     (1)(e) have successfully passed examinations established by rule by the division in collaboration with the board; and
     (1)(f) meet with the board or representative of the division upon request for the purpose of evaluating the applicant’s qualifications for license.
(2) Each applicant for licensure as an architect by endorsement shall:

     (2)(a) submit an application in a form prescribed by the division;
     (2)(b) pay a fee determined by the department under Section 63J-1-504;
     (2)(c) submit satisfactory evidence of:

          (2)(c)(i)

               (2)(c)(i)(A) current licensure in good standing in a jurisdiction recognized by rule by the division in collaboration with the board; and
               (2)(c)(i)(B) current certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards; or
          (2)(c)(ii)

               (2)(c)(ii)(A) current license in good standing in a jurisdiction recognized by rule by the division in collaboration with the board; and
               (2)(c)(ii)(B) full-time employment as a licensed architect as a principal for at least five of the last seven years immediately preceding the date of the application;
     (2)(d) have successfully passed an examination established by rule by the division in collaboration with the board; and
     (2)(e) meet with the board or representative of the division upon request for the purpose of evaluating the applicant’s qualifications for license.
