Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 28.20.290
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- department: means the Department of Administration. See Alaska Statutes 28.90.990
- judgment: means a judgment that is final by expiration without appeal of the time within which an appeal may be taken, or final by affirmation on appeal, given by a court of a state or of the United States, upon a cause of action arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a vehicle of a type subject to registration under the laws of this state, for damages, including damages for care and loss of services, because of bodily injury to or death of a person, or for damages because of injury to or destruction of property, including the loss of use of property, or upon a cause of action on an agreement of settlement for such damages. - state: means the State of Alaska unless applied to the different parts of the United States and in the latter case it includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
If the defendant named in a certified copy of a judgment reported to the department is a nonresident, the department shall send a certified copy of the judgment to the official in charge of the issuance of licenses and registrations of the state of which the defendant is a resident.
