(a) The Chief of Police, or his designee, may assign police officers consistent with the needs of the Department to the villages so as to be the most efficient in carrying out the purposes of the Department to preserve the peace, to enforce the law and to prevent and detect crime.

(b) The Chief of Police may assign those hired as limited term police officers to serve as a school resource officer, who at the minimum will be responsible for addressing drugs andviolence in the schools, the investigation of criminal activity involving juveniles, and other duties as agreed upon by the parties in a Memorandum of Understanding and whose employment shall be on a school-year basis.
