Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 265:61
- Department: shall mean the department of safety of the state of New Hampshire. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:19
- Driver: shall mean a person who drives or is in actual physical control of a motor vehicle as defined in N. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:25
- Emergency vehicles: shall mean all vehicles of fire departments and police departments, the state department of corrections, and such ambulances and emergency vehicles of municipal departments or public service corporations as authorized by the director. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:28

The speed limitations set forth in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 265:60 shall not apply to vehicles when driven with due regard for safety under the direction of the peace officers in the chase or apprehension of violators of the law or of persons charged with or suspected of any such violation, nor to fire department or fire patrol vehicles when traveling in response to a fire alarm, nor to public or private ambulances or other emergency vehicles when traveling in emergencies. This exemption shall not, however, protect the driver of any such vehicle from the consequences of a reckless disregard of the safety of others.
