- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
The time for filing an application for leave to appeal and the manner and any conditions for the taking of the appeal shall be as the Supreme Judicial Court shall by rule provide. [PL 1989, c. 218, §5 (NEW).]
