1. Authorization. The following, by a contract with the abutting landowners at the designated crossing, may authorize the crossing of ways by vehicles or objects having an excessive length, width, height or weight:
A. The Department of Transportation for state aid highways and other ways maintained by the department; [PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (NEW); PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. B, §5 (AFF).]

- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Department: means the Department of Transportation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101
- Municipality: includes cities, towns and plantations, except that "municipality" does not include plantations in Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV; or Title 30?A, Part 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Way: means the entire width between boundary lines of a road, highway, parkway, street or bridge used for vehicular traffic, whether public or private. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101
2. Contract. A contract must contain at least the following:

3. Scope. A contract grants authority to use the crossing to the abutting landowners at the point of crossing and to those using the crossing with the landowner’s permission.
