Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 38 Sec. 1472

  • Low-level radioactive waste: means radioactive material that is not high-level radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuel, transuranic waste or by-product material, as defined in the United States Code, title 42, § 2014(e)(2), the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, Section 11(e)(2); and that the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, consistent with existing law, classifies as low-level radioactive waste. Each low-level radioactive waste generator shall annually report, by March 31st, the volume, radioactivity and other physical and chemical characteristics of low-level waste generated and of low-level waste shipped to commercial disposal facilities, and the volume, radioactivity and other pertinent characteristics of low-level radioactive waste stored on-site. This report shall be submitted to the commissioner and to the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, and shall include information on the specific radioactive materials handled.
