Subdivision 1.Service pensions based on years of service.

A relief association must provide service pensions or retirement benefits to its members based on the years of service of the members, not on the compensation paid to the members for their service.

Terms Used In Minnesota Statutes 424A.03

  • Municipality: means a city or township which has established a fire department with which the relief association is directly associated, a city or township which has entered into a contract with the independent nonprofit firefighting corporation of which the relief association is directly associated, or a city or township that has entered into a contract with a joint powers entity established under section 471. See Minnesota Statutes 424A.001
  • state: extends to and includes the District of Columbia and the several territories. See Minnesota Statutes 645.44

If a relief association violates subdivision 1, the affiliated municipality or municipalities must not be included in the apportionment of fire state aid and police and firefighter retirement supplemental state aid payable under chapter 477B and section 423A.022 and in the apportionment of fire state aid to the various municipalities under section 477B.03.
