Subdivision 1.General.

Unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the following terms, when used in sections 72A.17 to 72A.32, shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section.

Terms Used In Minnesota Statutes 72A.18

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Minnesota Statutes 645.44

“Person” means any individual, corporation, association, partnership, reciprocal exchange, interinsurer, Lloyds insurer, fraternal benefit society, or any other legal entity, engaged in the business of insurance, including an agent, a solicitor, or an adjuster and for the purposes of sections 72A.31 and 72A.32 “person” shall in addition mean any person, firm or corporation even though not engaged in the business of insurance.
