Except as otherwise provided in this section, the premium reduction required by ORS § 742.490 (1) shall be effective for an insured for a three-year period after successful completion of the approved course if the person is less than 70 years of age at the time of taking the course or for a two-year period after successful completion of an approved course if the person is 70 years of age or more at the time of taking the course. An insurer may require, as a condition of maintaining the discount, that the insured:

- Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.
- Person: includes individuals, corporations, associations, firms, partnerships, limited liability companies and joint stock companies. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
(1) Not be involved in an accident for which the insured is at fault; and
(2) Not be convicted of or plead guilty or nolo contendere to a moving traffic violation. [1989 c.379 § 3]
