- in-state miles: means the total number of miles operated in this state during the preceding year by motor vehicles of a fleet which were registered on an apportioned basis in this state during such preceding year by the owner operating such total number of miles in this state. - Vehicle: means every device in, upon or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a public highway, excepting electric personal assistive mobility devices or devices moved by human power or used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks. See Kansas Statutes 8-126
The director of vehicles shall compute apportioned registration fees for each fleet as follows: (a) Divide in-state miles by total fleet miles; (b) determine the total amount necessary under the provisions of Kan. Stat. Ann. § 8-143, and amendments thereto, to register each and every vehicle of a fleet for which apportioned registration is sought, based on the regular annual fees for a registration year or applicable fees for the unexpired portion of the registration year; and (c) multiply the sum obtained under subsection (b) by the percentage factor obtained under subsection (a).
