A volunteer firefighter entitled to benefits under the workers compensation act who is engaged by the state of Kansas under the compact pursuant to Kan. Stat. Ann. § 31-801, and amendments thereto, shall be deemed to be an employee of the state of Kansas solely for purposes of the workers compensation act.
