Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 59-2701

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Property: includes personal and real property. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201

The district courts shall have jurisdiction to administer, in accordance with the provisions of this act, the property within this state of (a) any person who has disappeared and remains unheard from by the persons most likely to hear from him or her, or (b) any person who is reported by the United States department of defense to be a prisoner of war or missing in action. The word “absentee” as used in this act shall refer to such a person.
