- Authority: means the High-Speed Rail Authority created pursuant to §. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- board: means the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. See California Revenue and Taxation Code 20
- commission: means the California Transportation Commission. See California Streets and Highways Code 22
- Committee: means the High-Speed Passenger Train Finance Committee created pursuant to Section 2704. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- Construction: includes :

- Corridor: means a portion of the high-speed train system as described in Section 2704. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- County: includes "city and county. See California Corporations Code 14
- County: includes "city and county. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 14
- department: means the Department of Parks and Recreation and "director" means the Director of Parks and Recreation. See California Public Resources Code 5001.1
- department: means the State Department of Health Services. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 14062
- Department: means the Department of Transportation of this state. See California Streets and Highways Code 20
- director: means the State Director of Health Services. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 14061
- Director: means the director of the department. See California Streets and Highways Code 21
- directors: means natural persons, designated in the articles or bylaws or elected by the incorporators, and their successors and natural persons designated, elected, or appointed by any other name or title to act as members of the governing body of the corporation. See California Corporations Code 5047
- Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:
- Fair market value: The price at which an asset would change hands in a transaction between a willing, informed buyer and a willing, informed seller.
- Fund: means the High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Fund created pursuant to Section 2704. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- High-speed train: means a passenger train capable of sustained revenue operating speeds of at least 200 miles per hour where conditions permit those speeds. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- High-speed train system: means a system with high-speed trains and includes, but is not limited to, the following components: right-of-way, track, power system, rolling stock, stations, and associated facilities. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
- Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC

- Medi-Cal: means the California Medical Assistance Program. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 14063
- Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.
- Person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See California Corporations Code 18
- Person: includes any person, firm, partnership, general partner of a partnership, limited liability company, registered limited liability partnership, foreign limited liability partnership, association, corporation, company, syndicate, estate, trust, business trust, or organization of any kind. - Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.

- Usable segment: means a portion of a corridor that includes at least two stations. See California Streets and Highways Code 2704.01
