The department is the primary state agency responsible for geologic hazard review and investigation, including, but not limited to, investigation of geologic hazards that may occur in relation to natural disasters. In that capacity, the department is responsible for the seismological, geological, and strong motion aspects of earthquake and other geological hazards investigations.
