Any Department of Corrections officer certified by the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission, including a K-9 handler, may use a police animal or search and rescue animal, as defined in Section 13A-11-260, Code of Alabama 1975, to assist any law enforcement agency with public safety.
