Terms Used In Alabama Code 32-7-36
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- following: means next after. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- United States: includes the territories thereof and the District of Columbia. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
This chapter shall not apply with respect to any motor vehicle owned by the United States, this state or any political subdivision of this state or any municipality therein; nor, except for Sections following accident” class=”unlinked-ref” datatype=”S” sessionyear=”2020″ statecd=”AL” title=”32″>32-7-5 and 32-7-28, with respect to any motor vehicle which is subject to the supervision and regulation of the Alabama Public Service Commission which have filed with such commission a bond or insurance policy, the liability under which is not less than that required of the operator of a motor vehicle under the terms of this chapter. Any person, firm, association, or corporation licensed and engaged in the business of renting or leasing motor vehicles to be operated on the public highways shall only be required to furnish proof of financial ability to satisfy any judgment or judgments rendered against the person, firm, association, or corporation in his or her or its capacity as owner of the motor vehicles and shall not be required to furnish proof of its financial ability to satisfy any judgment or judgments rendered against the person to whom the motor vehicle was rented or leased at the time of the accident.
