Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 353-131
- Department: means the department of corrections and rehabilitation. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 353-1
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
For purposes of this part:
“Offender” means a person in the custody of the department of corrections and rehabilitation or the Hawaii paroling authority but does not include juveniles under the jurisdiction of the family court.
“System” means the statewide automated victim information and notification system.
“Victim” means a person against whom a crime has been committed by the offender and includes, in homicide cases, surviving immediate family members.
