Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 657D-27
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Court: includes any court of competent jurisdiction of the State of Hawaii, whether or not a court of record. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 657D-1
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
- Military service: means service on state active duty in any of the state military forces or full time National Guard duty. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 657D-1
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- Person: when used with reference to the holder of any right alleged to exist against a person in military service or against a person secondarily liable under such right, includes individuals, partnerships, corporations, and any other forms of business association. Dependents of a person in military service shall be entitled to the benefits accorded to persons in military service under this part upon application to a court therefor, unless in the opinion of the court the ability of these dependents to comply with the terms of the obligation, contract, lease, or bailment has not been materially impaired by reason of the military service of the person upon whom the applicants are dependent.
