Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes > 705 ILCS 405 > Article V > Part 6 - Trial
- Acquittal:
- Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
- A verdict of "not guilty."
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Community service: means uncompensated labor for

See Illinois Compiled Statutes 705 ILCS 405/5-105Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.individual: shall include every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development. When a mistrial is declared, the trial must start again from the selection of the jury.Month: means a calendar month, and the word "year" a calendar year unless otherwise expressed; and the word "year" alone, is equivalent to the expression "year of our Lord. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.10Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.Sentencing hearing: means a hearing to | | determine whether a minor should be adjudged a ward of the court, and to determine what sentence should be imposed on the minor.
