- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
All moneys received by the Department as fees and penalties under this Act shall be deposited into the Amusement Ride and Patron Safety Fund and shall be used by the Department, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly, in addition to any General Revenue funds, for administration, investigation, and other expenses incurred in carrying out its powers and duties under this Act, including costs related to the Board. The Department shall hire as many ride inspectors and other personnel as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this Act. Any moneys in the Fund at the end of a fiscal year in excess of those moneys necessary for the Department to carry out its powers and duties under this Act shall be available to the Department for the next fiscal year for any of the Department’s duties and may be transferred from the Amusement Ride and Patron Safety Fund to the various accounts available to the Department, as needed.
