- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
The Governor shall annually designate by official proclamation the third Sunday in May to be designated as Citizenship Day to be observed throughout the State as a day for the purpose of holding appropriate ceremonies in the various communities of the State for the preparation as citizens of persons who during the last 12 months have reached the age of 18 years. The ceremonies shall emphasize the responsibilities attached to the rights and privileges of citizenship.
