Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 225 ILCS 645/7

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Each non-resident applicant for an original license or renewal license shall file with the Department an irrevocable consent that actions against the applicant may be filed in the circuit court of the county where the plaintiff resides or where some part of the transaction occurred out of which the alleged cause of action arose and that process in any action may be served on the applicant by leaving 2 copies thereof with the Director. Such consent shall stipulate that such service of process is valid for all purposes. The Director shall promptly forward, by certified mail, one copy of such process to the applicant at the address shown on the records of the Department. No foreign corporation shall be granted a license under this Act until it has been authorized by the Secretary of State to do business in this State.
