Injuries caused by regional board of school trustees member; indemnification. In case any injury to the person or property of another is caused by a member of the regional board of school trustees while the member is engaged in the performance of his or her duties as trustee, the county or counties in whose behalf the member is performing his or her duties as trustee may indemnify the member for any judgment recovered against the member as the result of such injury, except where the injury results from the wilful misconduct of the member.
If the regional board of school trustees is in a multi-county educational service region, the power to indemnify imposed by this Section shall extend to each county on a pro-rata basis, calculated by dividing the equalized assessed valuation of each county by the equalized assessed valuation of the educational service region.
