Employees, who at the time the provisions of KRS § 67A.230 to KRS § 67A.350 become effective have been in the employ of the urban-county government, or any city or county or other municipality merged into such urban-county government, (a) for six (6) months last past or (b) having been employed after taking a merit system examination, shall not be required to stand an original examination, unless the comprehensive plan otherwise provides, and shall be eligible for all the benefits provided by KRS § 67A.230 to KRS § 67A.310, unless the comprehensive plan otherwise provides.
