Terms Used In Texas Code of Criminal Procedure 13A.057
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- in writing: includes any representation of words, letters, or figures, whether by writing, printing, or other means. See Texas Government Code 312.011
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
- Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
With the consent of the defendant in writing, the defendant’s attorney, and the attorney representing the state, the trial of a felony case without a jury may be held in any county in a judicial district for the county in which venue is otherwise authorized by law.
