Terms Used In Iowa Code 101A.4

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Director: means the director of the department of inspections, appeals, and licensing or the director's designee. See Iowa Code 101A.1
  • permit: means a permit issued by a county sheriff or chief of police of a city of ten thousand or more population, pursuant to this chapter. See Iowa Code 101A.1
  • Person: means any individual, corporation, partnership, or association. See Iowa Code 101A.1
 2. A person who is refused issuance of a user’s permit by a local permit issuing authority may appeal the authority’s decision to the county board of supervisors or the city council of the county or city where the permit is sought, and de novo to the district court.
