Terms Used In Iowa Code 357A.7
- Board: means the board of directors of a district, and "director" means a member of such board of directors. See Iowa Code 357A.1
- District: means a rural water district incorporated and organized pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. See Iowa Code 357A.1
- Member: means an owner of real property which is located within a district, the tenant of the real property, or another person acting for the owner with the owner's written consent. See Iowa Code 357A.1
- Participating member: means a member who has subscribed to and paid the established fee for at least one benefit unit in a district, in the manner provided by this chapter. See Iowa Code 357A.1
- Supervisors: means the board of supervisors of a county, or the board of supervisors of an adjacent county, in which a district has been incorporated and organized or is proposed to be incorporated and organized. See Iowa Code 357A.1
As a part of the order incorporating the district, the supervisors shall fix the time and place at which the members shall meet to select from their number a board of directors. Selection of the initial board shall be not later than thirty days after the hearing. The number of directors on the board, not to exceed nine, shall be determined by a majority vote of those members present. Any member elected a director who fails to become a participating member, within thirty days after entry in the minutes of the board of a declaration of availability of benefit units for subscription, shall forfeit the office of director.
