- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
633.567 Appointment of guardian or conservator on a standby basis for minor approaching majority.
Any adult with an interest in the welfare of a minor who is at least seventeen years and six months of age may file a verified petition pursuant to § 633.552 or § 633.553 to initiate a proceeding to appoint a guardian or conservator for the minor to take effect on the minor’s eighteenth birthday.
