All applications for pardon, commutation of sentence, or reprieve shall be made in writing to the adult parole authority. Upon the filing of such application, or when directed by the governor in any case, a thorough investigation into the propriety of granting a pardon, commutation, or reprieve shall be made by the authority, which shall report in writing to the governor a brief statement of the facts in the case, together with the recommendation of the authority for or against the granting of a pardon, commutation, or reprieve, the grounds therefor and the records or minutes relating to the case.
Terms Used In Ohio Code 2967.07
- commutation of sentence: means the substitution by the governor of a lesser for a greater punishment. See Ohio Code 2967.01
- in writing: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Pardon: means the remission of penalty by the governor in accordance with the power vested in the governor by the constitution. See Ohio Code 2967.01
- Parole: means , regarding a prisoner who is serving a prison term for aggravated murder or murder, who is serving a prison term of life imprisonment for rape or for felonious sexual penetration as it existed under section 2907. See Ohio Code 2967.01
- Reprieve: means the temporary suspension by the governor of the execution of a sentence or prison term. See Ohio Code 2967.01
