Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 9:6-2

  • Parent: as used in this chapter , shall include the stepfather and stepmother and the adoptive or resource family parent. See New Jersey Statutes 9:6-2
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 9:6-2. “Parent”, as used in this chapter, shall include the stepfather and stepmother and the adoptive or resource family parent. “The person having the care, custody and control of any child”, as used in this chapter, shall mean any person who has assumed the care of a child, or any person with whom a child is living at the time the offense is committed, and shall include a teacher, employee or volunteer, whether compensated or uncompensated, of an institution as defined in section 1 of P.L.1974, c.119 (C. 9:6-8.21) who is responsible for the child’s welfare, and a person who legally or voluntarily assumes the care, custody, maintenance or support of the child. Custodian also includes any other staff person of an institution regardless of whether or not the person is responsible for the care or supervision of the child. Custodian also includes a teaching staff member or other employee, whether compensated or uncompensated, of a day school as defined in section 1 of P.L.1974, c.119 (C. 9:6-8.21).
