- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 50. An individual health insurer that provides hospital or medical expense benefits under a policy that is delivered, issued, executed or renewed in this State or approved for issuance or renewal in this State by the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance, on or after the effective date of P.L.2003, c.246 (C. 26:8A-1 et al.), under which dependent coverage is available, shall offer dependent coverage to a covered person for a covered person’s domestic partner. For the purposes of this section, “domestic partner” means a domestic partner as defined in section 3 of P.L.2003, c.246 (C. 26:8A-3).
This section shall apply to those policies in which the insurer has reserved the right to change the premium.
