Terms Used In Michigan Laws 390.1593

  • Department: means the department of community health. See Michigan Laws 390.1592
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Fund: means the pregnant and parenting student services fund created in section 3. See Michigan Laws 390.1592
  • Institution of higher education: means a degree or certificate granting public or private college or university, junior college, or community college in this state. See Michigan Laws 390.1592
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
    (1) The pregnant and parenting student services fund is established in the department of treasury. The fund shall consist of money allocated, donated, or paid to the fund from any source and interest and earnings from fund investments.
    (2) The state treasurer shall direct the investment of the fund.
    (3) Money in the fund at the close of a fiscal year shall remain in the fund and shall not revert to the general fund.
    (4) Money in the fund shall be disbursed for grants under this act and the administrative costs of the department and the department of treasury in implementing and administering this act.
    (5) The state treasurer shall make a grant from the fund to an institution of higher education upon receipt of a written notice from the department under section 4.
