Terms Used In Michigan Laws 550.1921
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Independent review organization: means a person that conducts independent external reviews of adverse determinations. See Michigan Laws 550.1903
- Person: means an individual or a corporation, partnership, association, joint venture, joint stock company, trust, unincorporated organization, or similar entity, or any combination of these. See Michigan Laws 550.1903
An independent review organization or clinical peer reviewer working on behalf of an independent review organization is not liable in damages to any person for any opinions rendered during or upon completion of an external review conducted under this act, unless the opinion was rendered in bad faith or involved gross negligence.
