Terms Used In Michigan Laws 500.2116b

  • Insurer: means an individual, corporation, association, partnership, reciprocal exchange, inter-insurer, Lloyds organization, fraternal benefit society, or other legal entity, engaged or attempting to engage in the business of making insurance or surety contracts. See Michigan Laws 500.106
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
    (1) Subject to subsection (2), an automobile insurer shall not refuse to insure, refuse to continue to insure, limit coverage available to, charge a reinstatement fee for, or increase the premiums for automobile insurance for an eligible person solely because the person previously failed to maintain insurance required by section 3101 for a vehicle owned by the person.
    (2) This section only applies to an eligible person that applies for automobile insurance before January 1, 2022.
