Receiving reward for assisting an escape—Any sheriff or other officer, who shall demand or receive any reward, gratuity or valuable thing, to procure, assist, connive at or permit any escape of any prisoner in his custody, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in the county jail not more than 2 years, or by fine of not more than 1,000 dollars.
