In the event the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles cancels any motor vehicle registration in error on or after January 1, 1996, or fails to maintain an accurate record of any such registration which has been issued or renewed on or after said date, and as a result of such error, a registrant has been issued a summons by a law enforcement officer for a violation of section 14-12, 14-12a or 14-13, the commissioner, upon confirmation of such error, shall (1) correct the registration records of the Department of Motor Vehicles, (2) notify the appropriate prosecuting authority of such error, (3) waive any fee provided in this part or in section 14-192 as may be necessary to evidence a valid registration or certificate of title, and (4) reimburse the registrant for any towing and storage charges and any other actual and reasonable expenses incurred by such registrant as a result of such error upon receipt of a written request for reimbursement.

Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 14-22f

  • Commissioner: includes the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles and any assistant to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles who is designated and authorized by, and who is acting for, the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles under a designation. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Officer: includes any constable, state marshal, inspector of motor vehicles, state policeman or other official authorized to make arrests or to serve process, provided the officer is in uniform or displays the officer's badge of office in a conspicuous place when making an arrest.   • Registration: includes the certificate of motor vehicle registration and the number plate or plates used in connection with such registration. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
  • Vehicle: includes any device suitable for the conveyance, drawing or other transportation of persons or property, whether operated on wheels, runners, a cushion of air or by any other means. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
