Each elevator or escalator shall be thoroughly inspected by a department elevator inspector at least once each eighteen months, except elevators located in private residences shall be inspected upon the request of the owner. More frequent inspections of any elevator or escalator shall be made if the condition thereof indicates that additional inspections are necessary or desirable.

  • department: means the Department of Administrative Services. See Connecticut General Statutes 29-191
  • elevator: means a hoisting and lowering mechanism equipped with a car or platform which moves in guides or rails in a substantially vertical direction other than an inclined stairway chairlift and a vertical wheelchair or incline lift, including sidewalk elevators used for the carrying of persons or freight.   • escalator: means a moving inclined continuous stairway or runway used for raising or lowering passengers. See Connecticut General Statutes 29-191
