Connecticut General Statutes 38a-447 – Discrimination against persons on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a victim of domestic violence or erased criminal history record information prohibited
No life insurance company doing business in this state may: (1) Make any distinction or discrimination between persons on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a victim of domestic violence or erased criminal history record information, as defined in section 46a-80a, as to the premiums or rates charged for policies upon the lives of such persons; (2) demand or require greater premiums from persons of one race, sexual orientation or gender identity than such as are at that time required by that company from persons of another race, sexual orientation or gender identity, or persons who have been victims of domestic violence than such as are at that time required by that company from persons who have not been victims of domestic violence, of the same age, sex, general condition of health and hope of longevity; (3) demand or require greater premiums from persons with erased criminal history record information than such as are at that time required by that company from persons without erased criminal history record information of the same age, sex, general conditions of health and hope of longevity; or (4) make or require any rebate, diminution or discount on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a victim of domestic violence or erased criminal history record information upon the sum to be paid on any policy in case of the death of any person insured, nor insert in the policy any condition, nor make any stipulation whereby such person insured shall bind such person, such person’s heirs, executors, administrators or assigns to accept any sum less than the full value or amount of such policy, in case of a claim accruing thereon by reason of the death of such person insured, other than such as are imposed upon all persons in similar cases; and each such stipulation or condition so made or inserted shall be void. For the purposes of this section, “victim of domestic violence” has the same meaning as provided in section 17b-112a.

- another: may extend and be applied to communities, companies, corporations, public or private, limited liability companies, societies and associations. See Connecticut General Statutes 1-1
- insurance company: includes any person or combination of persons doing any kind or form of insurance business other than a fraternal benefit society, and shall include a receiver of any insurer when the context reasonably permits. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
- Insured: means a person to whom or for whose benefit an insurer makes a promise in an insurance policy. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
- Person: means an individual, a corporation, a partnership, a limited liability company, an association, a joint stock company, a business trust, an unincorporated organization or other legal entity. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
- Policy: means any document, including attached endorsements and riders, purporting to be an enforceable contract, which memorializes in writing some or all of the terms of an insurance contract. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
- State: means any state, district, or territory of the United States. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
