- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
If the court issues an order granting physical placement under this subchapter, or an agreement granting physical placement has been executed under subch. II, the court may enter a temporary order for child support consistent with the law of this state other than this chapter if the court has jurisdiction under ch. 769.
