Terms Used In Missouri Constitution Article I Sec. 21 - Excessive bail and fines -- cruel and unusual punishment
- Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
That excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted.
