- Audit: an independent, objective assessment of the stewardship, performance, or cost of government policies, programs, or operations, depending upon the type and scope of the audit. See Missouri Laws 29.005

The state auditor shall have free access to the office, books, accounts and papers of the commissioner of administration for the inspection thereof and may conduct a continuous audit of the books, accounts and papers. He may assign employees to conduct the continuous audit in the office of the commissioner of administration and the commissioner of administration shall afford the employees every reasonable facility.
