Terms Used In Missouri Laws 378.634

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Society: a fraternal benefit society, unless otherwise indicated. See Missouri Laws 378.604
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020

Every society authorized to do business in this state shall be subject to the sections of chapter 375 relating to unfair practices and frauds; provided, however, that nothing therein shall be construed as applying to or affecting the right of any society to determine its eligibility requirements for membership, or be construed as applying to or affecting the offering of benefits exclusively to members or persons eligible for membership in the society by a subsidiary corporation or affiliated organization of the society.
