Terms Used In Utah Code > Title 58 > Chapter 28 > Part 3 - Licensing

  • Animal: means any animal other than a human. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • AVMA: means American Veterinary Medical Association. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Board: means the Veterinary Board established in Section 58-28-201. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Department: means the Department of Commerce. See Utah Code 58-1-102
  • Direct supervision: means a veterinarian is present and available for face-to-face contact with the patient and individual being supervised, at the time the patient is receiving veterinary care. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Division: means the Division of Professional Licensing created in Section 58-1-103. See Utah Code 58-1-102
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Indirect supervision: means a veterinarian:
         (10)(a) has given either written or verbal instructions for veterinary care of a patient to the individual being supervised; and
         (10)(b) is available to the individual being supervised by telephone or other electronic means of communication during the period of time in which the veterinary care is given to the patient. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Licensee: includes any holder of a license, certificate, registration, permit, student card, or apprentice card authorized under this title. See Utah Code 58-1-102
  • Person: means :
         (24)(a) an individual;
         (24)(b) an association;
         (24)(c) an institution;
         (24)(d) a corporation;
         (24)(e) a company;
         (24)(f) a trust;
         (24)(g) a limited liability company;
         (24)(h) a partnership;
         (24)(i) a political subdivision;
         (24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and
         (24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Practice of veterinary technology: means to perform tasks that are:
         (12)(a) related to the care and treatment of animals;
         (12)(b) delegated by a veterinarian;
         (12)(c) performed under the direct or indirect supervision of a veterinarian; and
         (12)(d) permitted by administrative rule and performed in accordance with the standards of the profession. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • State certification: means a designation granted by the division on behalf of the state to an individual who has met the requirements for state certification as a veterinary technician related to the practice of veterinary technology. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • State certified: means , when used in conjunction with the occupation of veterinary technician, a title that:
         (14)(a) may be used by an individual who has met state certification requirements related to the occupation of veterinary technician as described in this chapter; and
         (14)(b) may not be used by an individual who has not met the state certification requirements related to the occupation of veterinary technician as described in this chapter. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • Teeth floating: means the removal of enamel points and the smoothing, contouring, and leveling of dental arcades and incisors of equine and other farm animals. See Utah Code 58-28-102
  • United States: includes each state, district, and territory of the United States of America. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Veterinarian: means an individual licensed under this chapter to engage in the practice of veterinary medicine, surgery, and dentistry. See Utah Code 58-28-102
