(1) In accordance with Title 63G, Chapter 3, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, the Department of Transportation shall make rules consistent with this chapter adopting standards and establishing specifications for a uniform system of traffic-control devices used on a highway.

Terms Used In Utah Code 41-6a-301

  • Administrator: includes "executor" when the subject matter justifies the use. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Department: means the Department of Public Safety. See Utah Code 41-6a-102
  • Highway: means the entire width between property lines of every way or place of any nature when any part of it is open to the use of the public as a matter of right for vehicular travel. See Utah Code 41-6a-102
  • Traffic: means pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, and other conveyances either singly or together while using any highway for the purpose of travel. See Utah Code 41-6a-102
(2) The standards and specifications adopted under Subsection (1) shall:

     (2)(a) include provisions for school crossing zones and use of school crossing guards; and
     (2)(b) correlate with, and where possible conform to, the system set forth in the most recent edition of the “Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways” and other standards issued or endorsed by the federal highway administrator.
