(1) A law enforcement agency with a school resource officer unit shall develop a school resource officer policy.
Terms Used In Utah Code 53-10-117
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Law enforcement agency: means an entity or division of:(1)(e)(i)(1)(e)(i)(A) the federal government, a state, or a political subdivision of a state;(1)(e)(i)(B) a state institution of higher education; or(1)(e)(i)(C) a private institution of higher education, if the entity or division is certified by the commissioner under Title 53, Chapter 19, Certification of Private Law Enforcement Agency; and(1)(e)(ii) that exists primarily to prevent and detect crime and enforce criminal laws, statutes, and ordinances. - Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
(2) The law enforcement agency shall ensure the policy described in Subsection (1) includes:(2)(a) the process for assignment and selection of a school resource officer;(2)(b) required training of a school resource officer;(2)(c) internal reporting requirements;(2)(d) arrest and use of force protocols;(2)(e) general oversight and accountability; and(2)(f) other duties required of a school resource officer.(3) The state security chief described in Section53-22-102 shall create a model policy consistent with this section.(4) A law enforcement agency may adopt the model policy described in Subsection (3).
